Heidi Montag' Concerned Her Nose Or Her Face Will Fall Off

First Posted: 08-26-10 03:40 PM

On Thursday Radaronline.com published new photos of Heidi Montag frolicking in a bikini in Costa Rica with a mysterious bandage on her nose. Aside from the bandages, her face looks relatively normal, compared to earlier this year when she was unable to move it. The swelling has gone down, her lips are a normal size and she has a few faint lines in her forehead.

Heidi tells Life & Style that she did not have another nose job as Radar suggested, but she simply has to keep the tape on so her face doesn't "fall off like Michael Jackson's."

Life & Style's press release follows:

After new photos of Heidi Montag surfaced today showing the reality star in Costa Rica with surgical tape on her nose, rumors quickly spread that she may have gotten more rhinoplasty. But Heidi Montag reveals exclusively to Life & Style that the suspect strip is just another drawback from her 2009 marathon surgery, when she had her nose tweaked for a second time. (The first was in 2007.)

"Except for filming and a few photo shoots, I've had my nose tape on 24 hours a day since November," she tells Life & Style. "It takes a year for your nose to heal. This is just the first photo that anyone has seen of it."

So she's simply following orders from her plastic surgeon Dr. Frank Ryan, who tragically died in a car crash on Aug. 16. "The last time I didn't wear tape after surgery and my nose changed shape," she explains. "The tape is supposed to keep the swelling down and hold my nose in place the way Dr. Ryan sculpted it. Dr. Ryan always said I was his best, most cautious patient, and I'm not taking any chances now that he's gone. I don't want my face to fall off like Michael Jackson's."

Here is an update about Heidi Montag. I wish more girls dreaming about enlargement would realize how unnecessary it is sometimes.

Heidi Montag wants her old implants back.

Montag, the former 'Hills' star turned plastic surgery spokeswoman turned sex tape star says she wants her huge, G-cup implants, which she got late last year, taken out. It was her second breast augmentation. At the time she said she wanted to go still bigger, and that she hoped to be an H cup.

No more. She gave an interview to Life & Style saying she is still in severe pain from her many procedures and that she feels "trapped" in her body. The press release is below.

"I'M DESPERATE TO GO BACK TO NORMAL LIFE AGAIN" - HEIDI MONTAG TO LIFE & STYLE

Just one week after the untimely death of her plastic surgeon, Dr. Frank Ryan, Heidi Montag sat down exclusively with Life & Style to tell-all about her plastic surgery regrets, revealing that she wants her outrageous G implants removed.

"I'm desperate to go back to normal," she confides to Life & Style. "I'm downgrading and going a little smaller, to a D or a double D."

More than nine months after she went under the knife on Nov. 20, Heidi says she is still in severe pain and her body has not gotten used to the over the top boob job. "I have major anxiety about it. I was taking painkillers but they weren't working so I stopped. It hurt either way,"

Besides being unable to hug her four dogs or wear anything but custom-made clothing, "I'm obsessed with fitness but it's impossible to work out with these boobs," she says. "It's heartbreaking. I can't live an everyday life."

And while Heidi tells Life & Style she is currently shopping for a surgeon in South America, she worries that she'll be trapped in this cartoonish body forever after the untimely passing of her confidant Dr. Ryan. "I feel trapped in my own body," Heidi tells Life & Style.

"There's just no fixing it," she says. "Dr. Ryan knows the work he did, he knows everything."

And in addition to this problem she has to wear a bandage on her nose ALL THE TIME SO THAT IT WON'T FALL OFF. She sure seems to have made some bad choices. Learn from her mistakes, women...

Your candor about the risks people run by driving fast is enlightening and refreshing to hear opposed to the macho bs I normally run into. My parents had a party last summer that a family friend came to. He is pushing 60 and drives BMW 6 series that probably goes 0-60 in the 5 second range. He laughed to me because he said he went over 100 on the back roads while driving to my house. I live under 2 miles away from him with roads that might have a maximum of 40 mph speed limits. I laughed along with him, but not because I was impressed by his speed, I was more impressed by how dumb the story was because it was either a gross exaggeration of how fast he really drove or an example of how little people think of the risks they take while driving those speeds in areas where they shouldn't be.

You look great on Moose! I'm sorry to hear that he died.......Courtney's pretty famous for being both an Olympic rider and now this massive rehab effort....so many people are hurt on horses, it's part of the 'game', a helmet is all we have and actually they are worn in competition, at least until you have to wear a top hat......not exactly protective gear!

Ralph had some nice words to say:

Ira,

Great article. You managed to really address a core stomach workout in an activity like horseback riding. Marta's passion and your mastery of the language makes for a meaningful read: Work your abs while riding horses. Marta's living proof.

Best regards,
Ralph

Sorry bro, disagree with you here. I think the guy on the right looks anemic and consumptive. I think like the Ann Taylor model in your post later this month this is a ridiculous and unrealistic goal for most people. All of these models are extremely thin, but they rely on their looks to make a living. If they have an 8 hour shoot twice a week, they work out for hours for the rest of the week. Nothing else to do. Health is what is most important, not the absence of ALL body fat.
By the way, I think most guys would love the abs in the picture on the left, and I also think you should check your glasses, I see at least 4 if not 6!
Keep up the good work!!

AWESOME posting Ira. And no, its not ironic that I would write on a skate board post.

This site is looking really great! If anyone has called you less than scholarly, they would be sorely mistaken.

Not to worry Ira; the only reason you felt uncomfortable with your new hair, and the possible clash with your beard, is that, subconsciously, your mind could not associate your "mature" looking hair with your 30ish' body architecture. Images of you have caused such a sensation globally that the Web is now replete with illustrations fashioned - of course - after your new sculpted body. You have started a new trend Ira. Next, IRA's Eatery, featuring Mussels Marinara.

Robert Doornick emailed me his reaction to the post above:

The web site looks great, and continues to expand with time. You've started a trend! Unlike that person who speaks negatively about the wrongfulness of obligating people to look better than they can or should at any given age, I firmly adhere to the principles that aiming for a fit body has little to do with the resulting aesthetics of a more "sculpted look" - unless of course vanity comes into play, in which case that becomes a personal issue - but instead, it has everything to do with maintaining a healthier body, embracing a more active and productive life, along with equally important side effects such as a more fit mind as well. If one ends up having a more pleasing architecture as a byproduct of exercising and eating right, then so be it; lest we not forget that it takes such a well tuned body to perform in sports, lead a much more productive life and - for those of us who don't adhere to physical exercise - enjoy a healthier and longer life.

Indeed, Advertising agencies manipulate consumers in the wrong way by using physical perfection, love and sex as appealing incentives for using or wanting products and services. In that context, the comments made by this person in your web site are indeed correct. Perhaps this same person should also be reminded that www.irasabs.com does not sell cars, toothpaste, clothing, or any other product or services. Replete with its countless and ever increasing accounts from willing participants, this implies that the clearly popular Site is about staying fit and healthy, rather than associating with a centerfold in order to drive the latest Automobile!

I for one have been working out for decades, and my body has at times looked fit enough, and at other times a bit on the bulky side. I have never lost sleep over its appearance however, and my satisfaction has always come from the knowledge that I was taking care of this bipedal vehicle so that it would transport me safely through life's challenging roads; and even when desired, allow me to willingly take the bumps, just for the fun of it!

I applaud you for irasabs.com Ira, and for facilitating this fun enclave of like-minds. May the Force Be With You, and I mean this strictly in the gymnastic, resistive kind of way!!!

I have never lost sleep over its appearance however, and my satisfaction has always come from the knowledge that I was taking care of this bipedal vehicle so that it would transport me safely through life’s challenging roads; and even when desired, allow me to willingly take the bumps, just for the fun of it!

I applaud you for irasabs.com Ira, and for facilitating this fun enclave of like-minds. May the Force Be With You, and I mean this strictly in the gymnastic, resistive kind of way!!!

Robert

Glad you liked his words...

Hi Ira - Yes, you may use the photos. I have negative exercise info...when I get more time, will write. I'm only a little more than an hour from you and so sharing the cold, but I love it. Going to Florida for a mini reunion w/Floyd Stern, Ron Ruthfield, Zale Bernstein, Hal Glassman, Linda Sluchak and spouses in February on Hutchinson Island.

A friend suggested today that if I really want to look younger, I should shave off my beard, which I grew in the late '70's. For years I thought I could lose about five years in appearance whenever I shaved, but I forgot all about that option. I was saving it until I really looked old. Hmmmm. How important is it to change how I look so drastically? I don't think I am ready yet. I'll at least sleep on it a day/week/month or two...

Exercise raises the Resting Metabolic rate, whereas starvaton lower it. That is why I always burn more calories even when resting, and maintain my 148 lbs in 5;10" for all of my 68 years. I never diet, but eat many tmes what the average person eats. I burn around 2,000 Calories a d1y, totalling 14, 000 Calories a day, & have recorded all of it for the past 10 years or so, There is never any exercise addiction, & I am perfectly happy to burn nothing from formal exercise when on holiday.
I row many times day on the C2 Indoor Rower.

A plastic surgeon I know, Dr. Dean Jabs, sent me this response:

Ira,

I think most people overestimate what can be done with surgery. People's imagination's get the best of them. Too much Hollywood, not enough Main Street, so to speak. We can do a lot, but like I tell my patients, "My name tag says M.D., not GOD". Lipo can contour but not reduce your body fat to 6%. Facial surgery and breast surgery can go a long way to restoring a youthful appearance and liposuction can contour...but that doesn't take the place of a good diet and exercise, appropriate sleep and laying off the "sauce."

Cheers,

Dean

Thanks for your positive words. I also heard by email from my brother:

I think your site is great. The abs thing is a goal, a measure of something most 40 year olds can’t imagine achieving, let alone those approaching 70. I wouldn’t put any pictures of overweight people on your site (unless it is a before picture, with a better after picture). They are not your goal. The nun who runs ironman triathlons wasn’t showing her abs, not showing off, not denigrating those who can’t do what she does. She (like you) was showing that she can do something that most people feel they cannot. (ed: you can read her story posted November 2, 2009 at http://www.irasabs.com/?p=2303)

We can achieve what we dream at any age. We just have to be willing and able to make the sacrifices to attain it. As our father quoted “What do you want? How bad do you want it?...and What are you willing to do/give up to get it?” Your website is not for everyone. It is for the people in those standard deviations that fall outside the masses, or hopefully for some of the average people who want to be something else, and need some inspiration to do it.

A reader asked some very specific and thoughtful questions. My answers are inserted in ALL CAPS:

Dear Ira,

Hi.

Is the pleasure associated with your colored hair received when you look in the mirror? YES Or is it reflected in strangers' attitudes towards you? NOT SO MUCH, BUT PROBABLY SOMEWHAT Or in old acquaintances who recognize the reversal of years? NO

Orlan, as your quote correctly states, did NOT alter her appearance in order to comply with social preferences for youth. What was your reason for including her in this context? I PLAN TO WRITE ABOUT HER DESIRE TO ALTER HER APPEARANCE...I PRESUME TO IMPROVE IT ALONG WITH MAKING AN ARTISTIC STATEMENT AND GENERATING ATTENTION. SHE DIDN'T CHOOSE TO COPY THE UGLIEST BODY PARTS FROM PAINTINGS AND SCULPTURE.

A good friend called to warn me about playing too rough. "Tennis is a social game," he said, "and if you hit the ball too hard and viciously, the other guys won't invite you back to play with them again." Of course I am conflicted that one friend says I am too gentle, and another friend says to avoid a driven, forceful game. So confusing, but amusing. I still think if I am a bit more powerful and determined, I will upgrade my performance, and be invited to the stronger games

just saw Frank again today. He is helping me heal my arm. I am playing tennis and/or squash almost every day now--an incredible run of racket sports--and my desire to eat is going down. I notice that I am losing my interest in yogurt (fat-free) with the fruit in it. Reducing my sugar intake is a real challenge and a goal. I actually threw out some partly eaten cookies and almond claw. I believe I am getting addicted to an endorphin rush on the courts that is decreasing my need for sweet foods.

Cindy--what are you doing to flex your abs. Your are growing them pretty fast, aren't you? when did you start working on them?

As for squirrel, I found a recipe for a stew in a book that might have been called something like "Eat Like a Wild Man." That squirrel meal was over six years ago. I sort of recall it being brown and in between beef stew and stringy chicken. The guests were all nervous, some avoided tasting it, and I never made another squirrel dish after that.

A third friend just called to add the following to the discussion:

From the Buddhist point of view, every moment is a perfect moment. Right now is perfection. We shouldn't focus on the past or the future. We should live in the present. I don't think I even agree with Duane's caption, that the boy in the photo reached his one moment of (physical) perfection and that the rest of his physical life was a decline.

Thought about the exchange below and wrote these words late last night:

I think I have always been aware that no one lives forever. Relatives were buried before I was 10. Former friends and girl friends have died since I was 17. Newspapers and TV describe life's ending as it is. So I didn't see anything depressing about the decaying/dying off process that all creatures and plants experience. We may throw the dead flowers out, but we enjoy them earlier, sniffing and admiring them as they open up and reach their peak, beautiful, aroma-producing moment.

If you are upset that we are at our healthiest when we are young, you can also savor the many benefits of being older. There is patience, wisdom, familiarity, new projects, parenthood, grandchildren, maturity and possibly deep love and shared experiences.

That we are often not conscious, and are out-to-lunch, distracted or just foolishly ignorant about our overlooked triumphs and physical accomplishments...that can be corrected with more attention and awareness. Once cognizant of a high in our life, we can relish it. We can also learn to accept that what we think falls short of perfection is really as close to perfect as we can get. So it is perfect for us.

If I am a baseball player hitting .250 and aiming for .400, maybe I should realize at some point that .250 is my personal best and revel in it. I may never hit any better. And yes I may be fired and replaced. But someday I will look back on my baseball career and see it as a high point in my life. Why not enjoy it during the time I have it?

If I am an artist selling paintings for $4000 each who wants to earn $50,000 for each one, maybe I should appreciate that $4000 is MY perfect reality and be pleased with that level. If the art market rewards me with more dollars later...fantastic. But I should relish where I am at each point on my evolutionary journey. (see Dean Jabs earlier comment below)

In human relationships, no one is perfect in the sense of fulfilling every need or wish that a partner or spouse might have. There really isn't anyone who will actually be perfect for you. Everyone will fall short of your fantasy. That is why one should value whomever we have, while we have them, and especially while they are healthy. If it really doesn't work, then separate and search for a more compatible partner.

Still nothing depressing about that to me.

Here is an email exchange with a friend who wrote the first comment below wondering whether the “Notice” post was exhilarating or depressing. Read from top to bottom:

Friend: I can't decide if this is exhilarating or depressing...looking forward to discussing!

Ira: I never thought how this could be depressing until you opened my eyes and brain to that view. I guess I had always recognized that we never live forever.

Friend: It’s not that we don't live forever. It’s that we peak so early despite our efforts to keep alive and growing.

Ira: hmmm. do you know when you peaked? are you referring to your physical self only? what about your maturation as a person, a mother, a wife...a grandmother?

Friend: I think the image you posted was speaking to physical, no?

Ira: yes, for sure. but it became a symbol for me all these years of how we also overlook our highs and accomplishments in all the non-physical areas. We are reaching for perfection in some non-physical venue, but miss the fact that we have already arrived there...until it passes. Here is part of a comment from another friend that I posted just before yours:

... whenever i am in central park, I get flashes of a time when our kids were young, happy, untroubled, we were healthy, rich, untroubled by the yet unknown realities waiting for us, feeling just great about the present and the future, and knowing now that that time was one of those perfect times. ( but not knowing it at the time.)

Here is an email exchange with a friend who wrote the first comment below wondering whether the “Notice” post was exhilarating or depressing. Read from top to bottom:

Friend: I can’t decide if this is exhilarating or depressing…looking forward to discussing!

Ira: I never thought how this could be depressing until you opened my eyes and brain to that view. I guess I had always recognized that we never live forever.

Friend: It’s not that we don’t live forever. It’s that we peak so early despite our efforts to keep alive and growing.

Ira: hmmm. do you know when you peaked? are you referring to your physical self only? what about your maturation as a person, a mother, a wife…a grandmother?

Friend: I think the image you posted was speaking to physical, no?

Ira: yes, for sure. but it became a symbol for me all these years of how we also overlook our highs and accomplishments in all the non-physical areas. We are reaching for perfection in some non-physical venue, but miss the fact that we have already arrived there…until it passes. Here is part of a comment from another friend that I posted just before yours:

A long-time friend emailed me these very personal thoughts:

First, I thought that was a picture of you, at some point in your life. A wave of envy and jealousy swept over me, but after putting on my reading glasses, I could see that this muscular guy lacked size in the male tool dept and I said "not big enough , cant be Ira." I was relieved. However,I really liked your writing ,Ira, and i get your point. whenever i am in central park, I get flashes of a time when our kids were young, happy, untroubled, we were healthy, rich, untroubled by the yet unknown realities waiting for us, feeling just great about the present and the future, and knowing now that that time was one of those perfect times.
Well said Dean. We agree when it comes to enjoying what you have in the present, rather than dwelling on the supposedly "brighter" future.
I welcome your challenge in paragraph two, but am not sure I agree with it. Yes we each touch and influence others...many others. But I could never believe that I have had as big an influence upon humans as people like Einstein or Jesus. While the metaphor with spermatozoa suggests that the rest of us are worthless, Duane pointed out that the humans who don't reach the "egg" or the main goal should not be flushed away, disposed of or terminated. Only that their lives were less impactful. We are second rate.
Frankly, as I write, I like your implications much better. Helps me rationalize my limited meaningfulness and the smaller difference I am making in the world. As for love...so few of us seem to find that level of joy for and with another that is portrayed in movies and novels. But it certainly can inspire, move mountains, and make all of life glorious and memorable. Glad to hear your views. Keep them coming.

Michael--you are absolutely correct. I owe you a long overdue apology for giving you such a hard time and teasing you for disrobing at my wedding. Now remember that taking your shirt off to help move the car that was in the ditch was one thing. But posing like a bodybuilder for the wedding photographer was something else. If you like, I will try to locate those pictures of you posing and put them on the site. We could show your progress photos from that time, through all your Ironman competitions, and then to the present day. Maybe we would see a change or two.

Nevertheless, reading your comments makes me laugh out loud at myself...and that is some of what I want everyone to experience from this site—amusement at a guy in his 60's making some abs and flashing around the world, while I also don't take myself too seriously. How could I—or anyone? It's all for fun, along with a bit of thoughtfulness and education, in a world that is complicated and sometimes nasty.

I love you for being so honest. Your only bro...

I remember my brother, a mere 50 something at the time, giving me a bunch of grief a few years back. I had driven up from somewhere to attend his wedding. One of the guests, pulled off of the road, and got the car stuck. I offered to help push the car back onto the road. I only had one dress shirt, so I took it off to help push the car. Didn't want tire marks or dirt on my only shirt at my brother's reception. For years thereafter the story would come up about how I "took the opportunity" to show off my physique at his wedding. Now, many years behind us, I pull up pictures of that same brother, pulling his shirt up and showing off his abs online, in city streets, in front of tennis courts, hotel rooms, alleyways, and locker rooms. For the record, I wasn't showing off! But then my abs were never remotely as good as yours bro! Keep up the great work.

Ira,
Sounds trite, but it is not the destination it is the journey that is important. We are all dying. Your point of enjoying what you have in the here and now is important. You never know what tomorrow brings.
I couldn't disagree more with your photographer friend about there only being certain individuals that have a real affect and the rest of us being therefore unimportant. Everyone affects everyone else. We are part of a living web. Some have more immediate affect than others but we live in an interwoven chain of life. Some small action you take today may affect someone in some way that changes the trajectory of their lives and you will never know you had anything to do with it. But it's real and it happens everyday.
The physical world is eventual decay. The only thing that lasts is love. We all die but our actions live on. Be kind to all.

Whoever you are -- and you're not one of my classmates because I'm one of Ira's -- I agree with just about everything you've said.

There are people that age and then there are those who grow old. I choose to be one of the former -- and don't plan to retire ever. Work keeps the faculties sharp and having to get up in the morning and look human inspires me to keep on looking good!

A little tastefully applied Botox (and whatever else) doesn't hurt either.

Oh, yeah, one more thing -- a younger man as a significant other will keep you on your toes (or whatever position you like). Works for me.

Steve--nice going and good to hear from you. Do you have any "before" and "current" photos you want to post of your progress?
I certainly agree with the Slower May Be Better theory, but am still guilty of doing more reps that are poorer quality and not as effective. Maybe I can start following your example the next time I do my crunches.

Hi Ira,

I just started with a trainer about two months ago who recommended doing (painfully) slow repetitions. For each rep, I start slow, hold it at the top of the concentric phase for a two or three count, then a slow eccentric phase. At the bottom I hold it until I'm ready to do the next rep, so I never take any of the stress off the muscle.

The weight is a bit lighter and I do fewer reps, so to others there it's probably a wussie set, but I've noticed they never do anything like this! :-)

Despite being a hardgainer, I've doubled in size everywhere but my chest (some flexibility issues are holding me back there). Not only that, but I'm much more in tune with my body and I'm able to concentrate more as well.

I just stumbled on your site by accident, but I plan on visiting again. Your progress has been amazing - keep up the great work - you're an inspiration to us all!

Cindy--Glad to hear that my chicken story made some sense. I was actually hunting for pheasant myself today—I will write about it later—and mentioned your impressions to the man with me who has been hunting and fishing since he was a child. He said that the pheasants have a 50% chance of surviving longer, while chickens have zero(0)%.

I know how abhorrent hunting is to many people. Yes there are those hunters I DON'T admire who kill beautiful animals that may be endangered just to put a stuffed head or whole huge fish on their wall. But here in Connecticut, almost all who hunt eat what they kill (the politically-correct term is "harvest"). They prefer the taste and health of deer that gives them a winter's supply of meat that has not been doctored in feed lots with growth hormones and other drugs...it's pure organic. They relish the spirituality of being in the woods and living somewhat off the land. They save food money that might have gone to the supermarket. They are professional men (lawyers and doctors and bankers) as well as blue collar guys...You can tell I have clearly adopted a different view here compared to what I never understood growing up in Miami Beach and spending 24 years in Manhattan and its suburbs.

Because I don't eat red meat, I have never hunted for deer. However the birds I shot today will be cleaned and cooked by me and served at our Thanksgiving table. Quite a treat.

Ira - The chicken story made it better. Sometimes I hate myself when the thought occurs to me that I allow others to kill what I eat. I could never, ever, have the decency or the courage to do it myself. Wouldn't mind shooting a noodle though. We have cut way back on meat, veal and pork also. Fortunately, I love ALL vegetables and fruits and pie in the sky.

Cindy—I'm afraid not. Millions of pheasants are raised on farms every year to be sold to hunting clubs whose members place them in the field (like I did). Later in the day or the week, the hunters come with their dogs who point at the birds or flush them into the air. At that time, the hunters try to shoot them as the birds take off suddenly at speeds of up 40-60 miles per hour. Almost all of the downed (killed) birds are eaten in accordance with elaborate recipes. Some of the living birds are never located by the dogs. Some of the hunters miss the birds found, flushed out of their cover and shot at. I hope this doesn't upset you. At least pheasants have a better chance of staying alive longer than any chicken raised on a farm, butchered in an assembly line and sold in a supermarket. I know many people who are vegetarians, because they don't like the whole idea of eating animals and birds. Personally I don't eat red meat, veal or pork. I do like to eat fish and fowl.

Thanks for your thoughts TJ. And your compliments. I had imagined collecting some of the Life Lessons into a book. But I thought I should write a bit more and listen to the feedback from readers of the site. Your comment is exactly what I fantasized I would receive.

Have you ever considered taking the major themes from your blog and turning them into a book? I think there are lots of people in this country that don't really venture out online in search of inspiration, but who could really benefit from the positive insights you're bringing to getting and staying healthy. I think you've got a great literary voice too, so why not share it with a wider audience?

[...] Aikido master Richard Strozzi Heckler says that you have to practice a physical skill 3000 times to do it automatically. 300 times just isn’t enough. I was thinking of his words as I worked out on the court last week. Something made a difference. Check out his advice at http://www.irasabs.com/?p=1653 [...]
